As a Small Business owner you must by now have been asked, or heard somebody else asked, “Have you Scoped yet?” and then heard somebody extolling the virtues of why you simply MUST use Periscope (or Meerkat) to market your business. I have to say this trend worries me.
In the last 12 years I have seen marketing fads appear and fade away into Digital obscurity. Some things have hung around and can be a great marketing tool – IF done right! Yes, I’m talking about things like Facebook and Twitter here.
Video is a very powerful marketing tool but, like everything else you do to promote yourself, you need to plan it and use it wisely. Instant videoing is most often not thought through. Many of the ‘Scopes’ I have seen have been pointless, with no real customer appeal and probably didn’t result in more sales.
Since your time is limited you need to consider very carefully what is most productive. If you decide to make videos then you simply must think about what your customer wants to know. Videos talking about how fab you are or showing your forkslift putting a pallet away aren’t going to cut it.
You need to do your homework first to ensure you aren’t wasting your time. Armed with the knowledge of what your customer wants to watch you can prepare effective videos or spot an ideal situation for an instant video that will be appropriate.
